Welcome to DeMolay Month! We hope all of your chapters are in full planning for 31 days of DeMolay excellence! DeMolay International has a full set of resrouces here to plan for this exciting month here.
Below are some other ideas on how you can celebrate this month:
1) Plan an event for each of the preceptors during this month. There are seven precepts, and you and your chapter can arrange to observe each during this month. Perhaps to do courtesy you plan a visit to the local assisted care community. For patriotism maybe you adopt a troop or send letters of support to our military men and women who defend our nation. For love of parents, hold a parents appreciation event, or have your chapter do coupon books. For Brotherhood, call a brother you have not seen in a while.
2) Plan a devotional day event: When I was a youth, we did a bad job explaining this. “You go to church together.” Nothing was really well explained about why we were doing it or any of the other details. The other problem was that each of us was involved in our own faith communities, either as an altar boy, an acolyte, an usher, or a Sunday School helper so it never quite worked out for our chapter.
The goal of devotional day is to do an event or program that helps you and your members think about the blessings and graces you have received in your lives. Some chapters invite a member of the clergy, like an Iman, a minister, a priest, a Rabbi, or some other learned person to talk and educate you about their belief system. Others plan a non-denominational service. Others perform a service project to help others. This should occur on a day convenient to the chapter around March 18.
3) Secure a resolution from your local government recognizing it as DeMolay month. Perhaps it’s your local mayor, county supervisor, county executive, Assembly member, State Senator or US Representative or Senator. If you need help crafting this let us know.
4) Run a press release about your chapter in the local newspaper about what your chapter does.
5) Host an event for Senior DeMolays in your area. Several chapters have hosted events that brought senior DeMolays back to talk about careers or their college experiences.
6) Hold an Essay Contest on a DeMolay preceptor: Host an essay contest for local students on a DeMolay concept and invite the winners to an event.
7) Call, text, or email a brother you have not heard from recently.
8) Wear DeMolay gear for a day. I know many schools have uniforms or dress codes, but maybe you pick a Saturday or Sunday to wear your favorite gear to sports or events.
9) Change your profile pic: Highlight something that you did in DeMolay or what makes you proud of DeMolay
