Albany York Rite Bodies Support Essay Contest
The success of DeMolay is because of the generous support of the Masonic fraternity. We are incredibly grateful for the support that Masons and Masonic organizations provide the young men, in time, in talent and in financial support. This support provides unique opportunities, personal growth, and development of our youth leaders.
Most recently, Ancient Temple Chapter #5 Royal Arch Masons and Bloss-DeWitt Clinton Council # 14, Royal and Select Masters both of Albany came forward to sponsor the inaugural New York State DeMolay Jurisdictional Essay Contest. Run in conjunction with the DeMolay International Kach Essay contest this provided the young men and women of New York DeMolay the opportunity to hone and demonstrate their critical thinking and writing skills.
This year’s topic: “If you could add a preceptor to DeMolay, what value would you add? “ The existing preceptors include love of family, reverence for sacred things, courtesy, comradeship, fidelity, cleanness and patriotism.
Past State Master Councilor and active Albany Companion of the Chapter and Council “Dad” Michael Hernandez who secured funding for this contest explained “Our Masonic Youth organizations inculcate principles that stress not only the importance of education, but of service. The inculcation of these principles must be supported, encouraged, and nurtured by our Masonic Family at-large. In doing so, we will help to ensure that the young men and women of these organizations will be an asset to their families, their communities, and our broader world. We are, therefore, proud to support these young men and women with these awards as they work to further their education. We congratulate them on all of their hard work and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors”
We look forward to seeing the jurisdictional contest become an annual tradition!
