State Ritual Contests


New York State Convention 2020 Ritual Competitions


This year New York DeMolay is trying something new and exciting for our ritual contests and highlight new parts and new competitors, our Ritual Team has unveiled some new changes. Now is a great time to get ready for state contests and our ritual team is here to assist you! 
 

Open to those 16 and over

·      Junior, Senior, and Master Councilor parts from the Initiatory Degree journey, found on pages 51 and 52 of the 15th Edition (red) Ritual.

 

Open to those 12 through 15

·      Senior Deacon receiving and welcoming candidates in Initiatory Degree, found on pages 40 and 41 of the 15th Edition (red) Ritual (i.e., the line beginning “Brother Stewards…” through the line beginning “Brother Master Councilor…”)

 

Open to anyone who joined at Convention 2019 or more recently

·      Rookie of the Year (Initiatory and DeMolay Degree Examination Queries), found on pages 83 through 86 of the 15th Edition (red) Ritual.

 

Open to all (Individual)

·      Ceremony of Light (found on pages 92 through 94 of the 15th Edition (red) Ritual);

·      Flower Talk (found on pages 87 through 91 of the 15th Edition (red) Ritual – note, use of the word “just” is mandatory in competition).

·      Individual Preceptors

Open to all (Team) - Chapter Proficiency

·      Opening and closing of a chapter meeting. Individuals from multiple chapters may work together to form a mixed team. Required parts are: Master Councilor, Senior Councilor, Junior Councilor, Senior Deacon, Junior Deacon, Senior Steward, Junior Steward, Marshal, Chaplain, Standard Bearer, and Sentinel. The Senior Deacon may perform the Standard Bearer’s part; the Junior Deacon may perform the Sentinel’s part; the Chaplain may perform the Marshal’s part; and one individual may perform both Stewards. Therefore, the minimum number of individuals to form a team is seven (7). However, regardless of the composition and doubling of parts, the spoken words will not change.

 

Open to all (Team) - Preceptor Corps.

·      A group of four (4) or more performing all seven preceptors, divided as the team desires, however, no single preceptor part may be subdivided among competitors.
