Subject:PMC-MSA, Terms, and other obligations
Several questions have come to us about various parts of the DeMolay Program and how COVID19 impacts them. Below is a summary memo that we hope will help explain several questions we have gotten. If you have a question that you do not see here, please drop “Dad” Brusoe an email at PWBrusoe@gmail.com
1. The PMC-MSA requires that I hold a devotional day observance, with COVID19 I am not able to do that. What do we do? Given the national emergency we do not expect you to actually hold the event. What we would like you to do is to include the plan for what it would have been. This also goes for observing DeMolay Month and should the emergency continue, it will include all other obligatory days.
2. As part of my PMC-MSA I was going to hold a fundraiser on March 22nd, We can no longer do that, what do we do? So ideally, you are going to re-schedule it for when COVID19 is no longer an issue. But we’re not sure when that is. Much like Devotional Day, we would like you to include all of the information on what the event *would* have been. What we do not want is for you to have not planned for it and get a free ride.
3. I was going to hit my membership goal with the Grand Master’s Class. What do I do now? Include in your PMC-MSA packet include photocopies of the petitions of the young men you were going to have join at Grand Master’s Class. While not our preference, given that the state postponed it we are going to allow it. NOTE: that these candidates will only count once. So if they join in the next term they will not count towards that term’s goal.
4. I am supposed to be Master Councilor on X date. If the event is canceled, when is my PMC-MSA letter due? We are asking for the letter to be sent within 10 days of you assuming leadership of your chapter. Letters should be emailed to “Dad” Schneider. Some chapters are planning on doing an informal change in leadership and the official ceremony at a later date. Just have the advisory council let us know.
5. Do I need real signatures on the paperwork? No, an email to “Dad” Schneider is fine.
6. I will not be able to confer both degrees of the order during my term now because of COVID19. What can I do? You will need to include a plan for the degrees (who was on the team, when was it going to happen) and you need to arrange with “Dad” Riha or a member of his team to show you know the ritual.
7. Can my chapter meet electronically? With the approval of your advisory council yes. Also be creative. Do an online game party for a social event, host an online chat with an interesting speaker, do your LCCs together. We have the technology, let’s make it work!
9. RD’s and LCC’s are not affected. Should there be any impact, they will be dealt with on a case by case basis. More importantly, now is a great time to do them!
We hope this is helpful, let us know if you have other questions or concerns.
